Building Your Online Course (BYOC) Online Course

 

Course Information

Who? The Building Your Online Course (BYOC) is appropriate for faculty members who have not previously taught online but are planning on developing and teaching an online course.

What will you learn? You will learn best practices using the QM Rubric for designing online courses, develop one learning module, and create a course plan for your online course.

What should you do? You will complete several assignments, quizzes, and actively participate in discussion boards.

What recognition will you receive? You can print a certificate of completion.

Course-Level Learning Objectives

Upon completion of the Building Your Online Course (BYOC) online course, you will be able to:

  1. Compile examples of best practices in online courses.
  2. Gather specific ideas for developing your course(s).
  3. Identify the eight key standards of the Quality Matters Rubric as crucial components of a quality online course, and explain the "intention" of each of these standards.
  4. Describe alignment as it relates to learning outcomes, instructional materials, and assessments.
  5. Develop a course plan that includes a description of the planned course navigations, course policies draft, outline one learning module, and provide a list of resources and timeline for developing the course.
