Building Your Online Course Using the Quality Matters Rubric

 

This training will explore the Quality Matters Rubric and will provide you with the framework that will allow you to build a quality online course. Participants in this hands-on workshop will use the Quality Matters rubric to design their online course and to develop a course development plan. This session will be of interest to faculty, staff, and instructional designers, who are in the process of building an online course.

The purpose of this workshop is to provide suggestions and ideas that participants can use when developing an online course. At the completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the eight key standards of the Quality Matters(TM) Rubric as crucial components of a quality online course, and explain the "intention" of each of these standards.
  • Use the Quality Matters(TM) Rubric to outline one learning module.
  • Describe alignment as it relates to learning outcomes, instructional materials, and assessments.
  • Develop a course plan that includes:
    1. a description of the planned course navigation
    2. an outline of one learning module, including at least one learning objective, instructional materials, and one assessment,
    3. a list of resources, training, and assistance that you may require to develop the course, and
    4. a timeline for developing the course.

By participating in this workshop, you can also expect to:

  • gain an understanding of the Quality Matters(TM) project
  • compile examples of best practices in online courses
  • gather specific ideas for developing your course(s)

The Building Your Online Course workshop is offered online and is 2 weeks in length. Past participants indicate that a total of 6-8 hours is required to complete the workshop. Fees are $150 for QM Subscribers and $200 for Non-Subscribers.
