With new details about the COVID-19 outbreak emerging daily, along with updated recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, it has become apparent that we will not be able to hold a face-to-face conference in New York City this April as planned.
While disappointing, the health and safety of our community is our top priority.
Another priority is to ensure that the exchange of best practices and innovative ideas continues. Now more than ever, the QM community needs to share its extensive experience. That’s why we’re transitioning the QM East Regional Conference to an online event. While it is always an enriching and rewarding experience to bring the QM community together face-to-face, hosting an online conference provides the opportunity to engage with an expanded audience, including those who are just now being introduced to the online modality. The depth and breadth of our community’s knowledge is a tremendous resource that can greatly benefit those who are turning to — or considering a turn to — remote teaching and learning. This conference will provide individuals with the opportunity to tap into that resource in a meaningful way.
The online conference will take place on the same day as the original conference — Friday, April 24, 8:30 a.m. ET - 5:00 p.m. ET. Most previously-planned presentations will be available online through Zoom webinar, including Dr. Sasha Thacaberry’s keynote, and a few new ones will be added. A networking room will also be open during lunch. We fully anticipate that the online conference will provide attendees with the “aha” moments and critical insights that they have come to expect from a QM conference.
Additionally, in light of the increased demand our community is facing, we have made the decision to provide conference registrants with access to BOTH the QM West Regional Online Conference — Friday, April 3, 8:30 a.m. PT - 5:00 p.m. PT — and the QM East Regional Online Conference at no additional cost. That way, attendees can pick the date, times and sessions that work best for them!
As a quality assurance organization, it is our hope that this crisis does more than raise interest in the access-related affordances of online learning but also opens dialog around the planning and expertise required to create quality online pathways for student success.
