Instructional Designers: Your Greatest Asset to Successful QM Implementation

We are a large public University that offers over 1,000 individual online courses. We are in the early phases of implementing QM as an institution-wide quality assurance program. Our poster will address how to prepare an instructional design team for QM implementation as well as the strategies and tools we developed to streamline the course design process. As instructional designers complete APPQMR, they will be able to guide faculty using the QM HE Rubric while developing courses. In addition, instructional designers garner buy-in from faculty throughout QM implementation.

Leveraging Rubrics to Increase Alignment and Outcomes

Creating a perfect rubric is elusive.  Writing a good rubric is challenging.  Developing a meaningful rubric is critical.  This workshop focuses on expanding rubrics in the course development and evaluation process into a powerful teaching and evaluation tool.  We will look at various types of rubrics and build on experiences of participants to construct rubrics which can be easily modified to make a consistent grading tool and connect assignments to objectives.  The workshop will then identify simple tactics which can leverage rubric criteria to strengthen fundamen

One Bite at a Time: How to Eat the QM Elephant

Over the past few years, our college has been working on encouraging faculty to develop robust QM courses. However, we discovered that faculty are overwhelmed at the thought of redesigning courses to meet QM standards and recommendations. One faculty even said that taking on QM was like “eating an elephant.” We found that her views were shared by many other faculty who simply did not want to invest the time due to the fear of beginning and undertaking such a large project.

QM Overview

This presentation is designed for faculty, staff, and administrators relatively new to QM. A quick introduction of QM, how it works, what's in it for institutions, and how QM can support efforts to help students succeed.

Research on QM Impact: Getting the Most Bang for Your QM

When the topic of QM Research is brought up, what comes to mind for many is research on the impact on courses, instructors, and students that results from implementing Quality Matters. Studies on QM impact are, in fact, one important focus of QM Research, with the others being research that supports the QM Rubric and process and research that examines the use of QM. A basis in regular, rigorous, continuous validation through research is what makes the QM Rubric unique.
