This workshop focuses on practical instructional design principles for online learning environments. Participants develop a coherent learning “blueprint” by intentionally aligning learning objectives, activities, assessments, resources, and technologies. The workshop emphasizes designing for learner agency, utilizing formative assessment as evidence of learning, and maintaining accessible and relevant course content over time.

This workshop aligns with NSQ Standard E: Instructional Design.

Learning Objectives
  1. Explain the interactive relationship between learning objectives, activities, and assessments in intentionally designed online courses.
  2. Evaluate and select instructional resources and technologies that align with learning objectives and support accessibility and inclusion.
  3. Design aligned activities and assessments that engage the learners while providing evidence of mastery of learning objectives.
  4. Create learning activities and assessments that offer students meaningful choice while maintaining clear success criteria.
Prerequisites

Ability to read and write standard business English.

What Participants Need
  1. 10-15 hours to complete at their own pace during the three-week period
  2. Computer with internet access
Special Notes

Workshops open monthly on the first Wednesday and close after three weeks. The work is self-paced with a portfolio assignment submitted to a facilitator upon completion (prior to workshop closure).
