Accessibility Policy Creation Guidelines

The Quality Matters Accessibility Policy for Online Courses

This policy is a starting point for institutions wishing to develop accessibility policies and practices for their online courses and is designed as a set of dynamic guidelines rather than a legal document. It was created in response to earlier research done by Frey and King (2010) with QM institutions revealing that 87% of respondents did not have an accessibility policy for online programs.

The Quality Matters Accessibility Policy for Online Courses was prepared as an adaptable outline of a generic accessibility policy by Barbara Frey, D.Ed., Senior Instructional Designer, and Lorna Kearns, Ph.D., Instructional Designer, at the Center for Instructional Development and Distance Education, University of Pittsburgh; and Denise King, Instructor, Carlow University, with a 2011 grant from Quality Matters.
