Persevering Through a Pandemic: Maintaining Student Engagement Through Quality Course Design

Description

Quality Matters Standards promote establishing connections between the student and the instructor, the content, and their peers to promote student success.  In today's landscape of various learning modalities (Zoom, hybrid, distance, online, and high flex, to name a few), even experienced faculty members may be struggling to find ways to best establish these connections with and for their students.  High quality, intentional course design is now more important than ever.  This session will first look at the research supporting student engagement, then discuss practical ways of achieving it through course structure and design, establishing instructor presence, and encouraging peer to peer interaction.  Participants will leave with ideas for immediate implementation into their own classes.  There will be time allowed at the end for audience members to share their strategies as well.
