QM Self Reviews: You Review, I Review, We All Review!

Description

In this session, you will learn how our institution utilizes the QM Self-Review tool option in preparation for QM-managed reviews.  The Online Course Development Program (OCDP) encourages and accelerates the development of quality online programs that align with our university's strategic priorities. The OCDP is offered three times a year and faculty participate as a cohort. Each cohort will work in the semester prior and develop online courses for the following semester. The estimated time commitment for the OCDP is roughly 60 hours a semester. First, faculty submit a proposal and approval form that is signed by their chair and dean. The faculty then agree to participate in an all-day APPQMR workshop, complete all module activities within the OCDP LMS site, attend scheduled meetings with an assigned instructional designer, present their final courses at a faculty showcase at the end of the program, develop the entire course (including lectures, assignments, projects, exams, etc.), participate in a QM-Managed Course Review and make the necessary edits or changes to meet QM standards at the end of the program.  The OCDP LMS site breaks down all QM standards into 10 separate Modules that begin with course alignment, we provide a syllabus template, discuss effective online course navigation strategies, review assignment descriptions and rubrics, discuss learner interaction, review creating and finding equitable and diverse instructional materials, and much more.   As a capstone to the OCDP, instructional designers work with the faculty to submit their courses through the QM review process. Right before we submit to QM, the IDs work with their faculty and encourage their faculty to first complete the self-review on their own, then the IDs do a self-review of the course. During the final meeting, the faculty and IDs come together to review the Self-Review prior to submitting the course through an official QM-Managed Review. The IDs appreciate the QM-Managed Review because it frees up their time and they have the ability to work with more faculty within each cohort to focus on the development of online programs. Which ultimately helps meet the strategic goal of creating more access and opportunity for online learners at our institution.
