Options for Course Recertification or Renewal

Maintaining QM Certification for a course is an important component of delivering on your online learning promise. Even if your course became QM-Certified just this year, don’t wait to start planning for recertification or renewal — now is the time to think about it.

Higher Ed QM-Managed Recertification Reviews

QM Certification for Higher Ed. courses is valid for five years. Higher Ed. Publisher course certification is valid for three years.

The process for recertification is initiated prior to the original certification expiration and needs to be completed within three months of initiation. During the Recertification Review, all QM Standards applicable to the original review type are examined, and the most current edition of the applicable QM Rubric will be used. A Recertification Review may be conducted only once for any course, and is valid for up to an additional three years. When that certification expires, the course needs to have a fresh Official Review.

Higher Ed Subscriber-Managed Recertification Reviews

Organizations with a Higher Education Full or System Subscription can choose to manage and conduct their own Recertification Reviews. In this case, your organization would handle all the paperwork, logistics, and reviewer payments. QM’s role is to provide supporting resources and to recognize courses that meet Standards in a Recertification Review. A Recertification Review may be conducted only once for any course, and is valid for up to an additional three years. When that certification expires, the course needs to have a fresh Official Review.

K-12 QM-Managed Renewal Reviews

QM Certification for K-12 courses (Locally Delivered or Distributed) is valid for three years starting with reviews that were completed using the K-12 Rubric, Sixth Edition.

The process for renewal is initiated prior to the original certification expiration and needs to be completed within three months of initiation. During the Renewal Review, all QM Standards applicable to the original review type are examined. The review type corresponding to how the course will be used — Locally Delivered or Distributed — should be selected when applying for a Renewal Review.
